STIAN_Lily Madigan3_IMAGE003 SCHOOL chiefs have apologised to a transgender pupil who was born a boy after she turned up wearing a school uniform for girls – after she hired a solicitor to fight her corner. Lily Madigan, who is 18 and was born Liam, was sent home from St Simon Stock Catholic School in Maidstone, Kent, after turning up wearing the ‘wrong uniform’ earlier this year. The teenager was furious that she couldn’t dress in girls’ uniform or use the girls’ toilets or changing rooms – and got more than 200 people to sign a petition on change.org backing her cause. Lily, just one of the 1,000 pupils at the mixed Catholic school, even hired a solicitor to fight her corner after being sent home from school in March this year. Her solicitor sent the school details of the 2010 Equality Act, which states that a person ‘must not be discriminated against because of their gender reassignment as a transsexual’.
